Each day at Out to Play is unique and co-created between the children and their educators. Each morning educators have loose parts, art supplies, books and science learning provocations set up to transition the children into their play-based learning day.
Part-way through the morning the educators gather the children for circle time. At the circle the children snack while the educators tell a story. Each day offers an original story created by the teachers. These stories might share a lesson for the day, or anticipate the day’s plans, or unite the children in a shared experience or laugh.
After the story children prepare to hike out to a play space on the land. They may offer suggestions on where they’d like to play, they may discuss among themselves with the educator’s support and then they’ll hike out. They’ll follow a trail to explore and settle in to play.
Children lunch out on the land through almost all weather, returning later in the day to create, build, garden and play together on the farm. Each day ends with a closing circle, where children will share their favourite part of the day, and say thank you to the land.
